The 2020 Mercedes-AMG GT53, which is completely redesigned just last year, are the German manufacturer’s newest iterations of a “four-door coupe.” Mercedes has used the E-basic class’s design for these stylish four-door, four-seat hatchback sedans, despite the name’s apparent reference to the GT coupe. However, the cars’ high-performance components and potent engines are all AMG. The GT63 and GT63 S versions feature twin-turbo V-8 engines for jaw-dropping acceleration, while all GT four-doors come standard with all-wheel drive, electronically adjustable dampers, sport seats, and plenty of horsepower.
A roaring inline-six cylinder engine with a supercharger, a turbocharger, an intercooler, and a tiny electric motor powers the 2020 GT53. From a stop, the supercharger and electric motor fill in the momentary pause before the turbo is fully engaged. Every time you press the accelerator, the 3.0-liter, which has a combined 429 horsepower, snaps necks. Our testing of the GT53 revealed that it reached 60 mph in 4.1 seconds and that it has a sport-tuned suspension that provides smooth, quick cornering and sports-car levels of grip. It also includes a standard nine-speed automated transmission.
